DeFeo opens Church Street Studio and Gallery

If you haven’t noticed the new art gallery on the square yet, you’re missing something.

Though a small 8-by-30-foot space, its very warm and covered top to bottom with great work from all walks of life. Owner Kathy De Feo has put something really great together, with hopes of catalyzing a new artist community to thrive, critique, and feed off one another’s inspirations and influences.

Since its opening on Feb. 21, the gallery has showcased art from numerous local artists as well as being the creative home to the art of De Feo and her partners, Nikki Kvarnes and Kevin Cunningham. During our conversation, it was clear to me that De Feo is not here to make a profit, she and her partners truly care about nurturing the art scene in our area, and hope to build the framework for a flourishing artistic environment.

Currently, there are 16 artists showing their work available for purchase anywhere from thirty to a few thousand dollars. They are constantly looking for new artists interested in showing their work to the community, and will next be accepting work until April 25 to show right before Jazzfest.

If you’re an artist and would like to contribute, please contact Church Street Studio and Gallery at (615) 569-2429 or stop by and say hey at 121 Church St.
