National Tartan Day

National Tartan Day will be

celebrated on the historic Murfreesboro Square on Saturday, April 4, from 1 – 6 p.m.

Americans of Scottish descent have played a vibrant and influential role in the development of the United States, organizers say. Over 11 million Americans claim Scottish roots; these are the people and accomplishments that are honored on National Tartan Day.

Blue Rooster will hold a whiskey tasting in conjunction with the event. For more information, contact Tartan Day Chairman Clarence Greek at (615) 895-7635 or cngreek@aol.com.

Iranian Author Visits

Marjane Satrapi, author of the immensely popular graphic novel “Persepolis,” recently made into a movie bearing the same title, will speak at MTSU on April 6, at 7 p.m. in the State Farm Room.

One of the best-known Iranian woman artists in the West, Satrapi uses visual and narrative elements to tell stories that illuminate children’s perspectives, women’s rights, political oppression and daily life in Iran in the 1970s and 1980s. The wearing of the veil, coming of age, political oppression, conflicts between East and West and emigration are among the many issues Satrapi addresses in her work.

A book signing and reception will follow Ms. Satrapi’s lecture.

Helping Disabled Transition

Secondary Transition is the process of moving from high school to adult life. This challenging time is made even more difficult when the student has a disability. The Arc of Tennessee’s Secondary Transition Project helps families and students with disabilities make this journey.

A workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, April 14, from 6 – 9 p.m., at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 200 E. Main St., in Murfreesboro. To register, contact Janice Martin at (615) 542-3719.
