Gagflex: Bishop Dick Denies the Holocaust

A priest walks into Bar Rational and tells the patrons that if they don’t change their ways then a very powerful and evil creature called Satan would have free reign to torture their souls when they died. He said that if everyone would just abide by the ancient text that he held in his hand that they would all go spend a blissful eternity with the kind and loving being that originally created this earth. He said, “we’ll call that being God and of course you have to wait till you’re dead for that to happen as well.”

One patron asks the bartender, “What’s wrong with that guy, he sounds a bit sick?” The bartender says, “Don’t listen to that old nutcase; that’s Bishop Richard Williamson and he doesn’t even believe the Holocaust happened.”

OK, that never happened. However, there is a bishop by the name of Richard Williamson who denies that the Holocaust ever happened. I’ll also go out on a limb and say that yes, he’s a nutcase.

If only the rest of the world was like Bar Rational then people like Richard Williamson wouldn’t have the stage that he’s got. He’d be assigned to his appropriate position of just another nutcase wearing an “End is Near” placard. Instead, this guy is brought back from excommunication and given a voice by the Pope himself. The Pope responded that he wasn’t aware of Williamson’s views when he lifted the excommunication. And why should he be? He’s only supposed to be the direct link to God.

If you don’t know what any of this means then just imagine a bunch of elderly men partaking in some nonsensical pageantry and teaching their grand knowledge to the supposed know-nothings. They are there for spiritual guidance and helping folks make decisions that couldn’t possibly be made without the advice of elderly gentlemen who believe in the supernatural.

Williamson believes that the whole idea of millions of Jews being gassed during World War II is a complete fabrication. So Richard Williamson devotes his entire life to faith in a magical incarnation that we can never prove exists, yet he doubts something that happened 60 years ago and there’s mountains of evidence to back it up. It’s like believing in angels but not eagles.

Williamson was removed from being the head of the Argentine seminary. Don’t ask me how the guy became the head of the Argentine seminary after being excommunicated for 20 years. There must have been a low bar for getting that job.

It’s time to stop paying attention to bishops, popes and their entire spiritual franchise. Who cares what the pope says about homosexuality, abortion, or any other real world topic? What they do and what they believe should have no impact upon modern society because they live in a world of fantastic garments and make-believe. It’s time for people to stop seeking spiritual guidance from high-priced salesmen, and maybe then we can stumble over the lives that we’re actually living and learn a bit about ourselves.
