What do you have faith in? I think it impossible to go through life without faith in something. Examples can range from faith in a higher power, the purity of mathematics, the belief that all people are inherently good, and even the belief that you can count on nothing.
These movies take philosophical looks into faith and the struggle for truth and resolution.

Pi: Faith In Chaos (1998) is director Darren Aronofsky’s first feature film. It was shot on 16mm film in beautiful black and white. The main character puts his mathematical abilities to work in an effort to make sense of the world around him. His uncanny pattern recognition and ingenuity attract the interest of some powerful organizations.

Physical and psychological struggles are used to great dramatic effect in this fantastic film.
The Book Of Life (1998) is directed by Hal Hartley. It was shot on digital video and employs some dreamy visual effects. The movie contemplates the modern second coming of Christ, with some really superb writing. With Armageddon impending, Jesus is back on behalf of his Father to open the seven seals.
Hartley makes use of some ingenious devices, in the unique style that is Hal Hartley. Plus, you can’t go wrong when P.J. Harvey portrays Mary Magdalene.
