OK, whomever left me the voicemail with a bunch of snippets from Mr. Rogers, if your desire was to confuse me, well it worked. If your desire was to get a recording of me all confused, well, the call went to voicemail, so no luck there. But I’ve played it quite a few times and have gotten some good entertainment out of it.
So, I get a call about 9 p.m. on a Sunday, from an “anonymous” number and don’t mess with it. I later check the voicemail and it’s who else but Fred Rogers asking me “Do you know who I am?” and “Have you ever had a check up?”; comforting me, “There’s no such thing as real monsters”; and stating “One of them was a mother raccoon.” Strange.
Though it’s not officially summer until the 21st, with the calendar turned to June and the festival season in full swing, it’s close enough to official.
Jazz Fest hit the Murfreesboro square in early May drawing in jazz lovers from all over, and the grounds of Covington Glen, just a few miles outside of Murfreesboro, were transported back to 16th Century England all month long. I think Jr. enjoyed rolling around checking out the costumes and activities and such.
The event really blends the past with the modern, as pointy elf ears are pressed against cell phones, some of the vendors selling leather goods, art and a variety of food and drink are accepting the royal MasterCard, and Nikes or Crocs emerge from otherwise convincing period dress.
In June, we have the International Folk Fest here in the ’Boro, focusing on dance from around the world, and the first weekend in June nearby Wartrace will host some great Bluegrass players for its festival. Of course Murfreesboro’s tradition of fiddlin’ and pickin,’ Uncle Dave Macon Days, will come back in July.
Once again, the Mayos will probably be sitting Bonnaroo out though, but BrackARoo will be in full force, June 12. He’ll be a year already. Wow. It’s true, they grow up fast.
He’s walking now.
And swimming a little too. Well, at least floating. Jr. has started his Infant Safety swim classes at Cornerstone SCUBA this month. Look for his full report next edition.
Peace,
Bracken Mayo, Editor in Chief
