Steered Straight Thrift

Whether Spanish-Speaking or Slytherin, Love Your Neighbor

Someone’s having a birthday. The close of 2010 marks yet another year in the books for the Pulse.

Guess how old we are. How old do we look?

We truly believe it’s the most entertaining publication in town. There’s always plenty of room for improvement, but it could be a lot worse.

Give us some feedback; for real. What do you like? What do you hate? What do you want to see more of? What do you want to see less of?

The Spanish language column will now be translated into English for your language-learning pleasure. Whether you’re an English speaker learning Spanish vocabulary, o un hablante de español tratando de aprender Inglés, hopefully it will help out.

Anyone who complains of Latinos or blacks or Asians or Muslims or anyone else invading American culture in recent years is obviously oblivious to what happened just 200 years ago. Just ask the Indian tribes about invading a culture. That was a real invasion.

Seeing someone who speaks a different language than you is not an invasion.
But whether it’s Christmas season or anytime of the year, some may be incarcerated, some Muslim, some Slytherin, some Spanish-speaking, Republicans, Democrats, a short-tempered quarterback, or a streetwalker on crack, but regardless of all that, love your neighbor. Right?

The stockings are hung, and the tree is up, we’ll see how the baby and the cat treat it.
Get out in the community this holiday season, and stop watching so much TV. Animal Planet has too many humans and MTV doesn’t have enough music anyway.

These days any joker with a Twitter account thinks they’re an amateur philosopher; but I’m your friendly neighborhood editor, here to keep it old school so that any joker who publishes a fly-by-night rag can play philosopher in training.

Peace,
