Middle Tennessee State hasn’t had the season that coach Kermit Davis would have liked, sitting at 14-15 overall, with one game left in the season (at the time of this writing).
Depending on what happens between Western Kentucky and Florida International on Feb. 24, MTSU could have second place in the East locked up by the time they play their last game against WKU.
Sadly for Blue Raider fans, it doesn’t look like the Raiders will be dancing this year. Joe Lunardi, of ESPN, has Florida Atlantic winning the Sun Belt tournament and making it in. MTSU was done in this year by several key losses to divisional foes, including being swept by FAU, and an over-time loss to Troy to end a five-game win
streak late in the season.

Coach Rick Insell should be very happy with his Lady Blue Raiders, who have compiled a 22-6(13-2) record and have a chance to end the regular season with a season sweep of Western Kentucky.
The Lady Raiders have been on a tear since January, going 13-2, with an eight-game win streak in the middle. Despite a 22-6 record, ESPN women’s basketball expert Charlie Creme has the Lady Raiders on the outside looking in. Creme has four teams ahead of MTSU: Boston College, Rutgers, Duquesne, and Kansas State, though ironically, MTSU beat Kansas State, 63-49 this year. The thing that is hurting the Lady Raiders the most is the fact that four of their six losses have come against high-caliber schools that are in the tournament: Xavier, Georgia Tech, Arkansas and Kentucky.
The Sun Belt Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be played March 5-8 in Hot Springs, Ark.
MTSU Baseball
The MTSU Blue Raiders baseball season is now under way. Make sure to head on out to Reese Smith Jr. Field to cheer on the Blue Raiders this year. The home schedule is highlighted by games against Vanderbilt on April 12 at 6 p.m., and Tennessee on May 11 at 6 p.m. Sun Belt games include Troy, South Alabama, UL-Monroe, Florida
International and Western Kentucky. This team is very young and has been picked to finish near the back of the Sun Belt, but under the watch of Coach Steve Peterson this team could easily exceed expectations, and be in the hunt for a Sun Belt title.
