With a sound deeply rooted in country music and influenced by Southern rock greats, Anthony Orio and The Goodfellers remove any doubt they are just a bar band.
The Fellers is comprised of Anthony Orio on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Christopher Griffiths on bass, Jonathan Newton on electric guitar, acoustic guitar and mandolin, Louis Winfield on drums and Billy Nobel on the keyboard. The band plays about 200 shows a year from Mississippi to Canada in order to promote its album, Anthony Orio and The Goodfellers.
With the release of the self-titled album, The Fellers have taken a mix of classic country, contemporary country and classic rock, paired that with the smooth and twangy vocal range displayed by Orio and put together an album that is too big to fit in one genre.
Orio does an excellent job of showcasing his vocal range and versatility in each of the album’s 10 songs. He makes a smooth transition from faster numbers with more of a rock sound (“When I Can’t Love You” and “You’ll Learn To Like It”) to slower country sounding ballads (“Eyes Closed” and “That’s Sexy”).
The Fellers show some of their musical influences with songs like “Open It” and “Girls of Summer.” The lyrics and instrumentation of “Open It” is reminiscent of early George Strait songs, while “Girls of Summer” has the fun, light-hearted sound that has been made popular by Jimmy Buffett.
The production quality and sound of the album is flawless. Orio, Griffiths, Newton, Winfield and Nobel compliment each other beautifully due to the ease and ability with which they play. The playing, coupled with Orio’s polished voice, combine to make an album full of songs that will make a name for these fellers.
