Last year, Newcastle Breweries released a line of limited edition seasonal beers in test markets across the U.S. via its distributor, Heineken USA. Recently, the spring seasonal Founder’s Ale has made its way to Murfreesboro, with draught served in two locations—Old Chicago and Bluesboro.
England-based Newcastle Breweries brought its original Newcastle Brown Ale to the world in 1927, which became extremely successful in the United Kingdom in the early ‘70s and eventually found significant popularity in the states. The company has partnered with Caledonian Brewery of Scotland to brew its seasonal ales, which has been functioning for 140 years and is known for its use of rare direct-fired open coppers in its brewing process.
Old Chicago began selling Founder’s Ale on tap in the middle of February.
“It has a smokier finish, not so hoppy,” said General Manager Gabe Hubble. “The Newcastle name carries a lot of weight and most of the people I talk to like it.”
In addition to the spring seasonal Founder’s Ale, flavors include Summer Ale, Winter IPA and Werewolf for the fall. Beer connoisseurs can expect to have each available, during its respective time of year, in 6-packs and 12-packs of bottles at Kroger and Publix, beginning with Summer Ale in late March/early April, according to a representative of Heineken USA.
Six-packs of Founder’s Ale have been found recently at Beer Depot (2002 E. Main Street) and Stones River Total Beverages (208 N. Thompson Lane). Perhaps there are other mom-and-pop locations in Rutherford Country that carry it as well. If your neighborhood beer store does not carry it, they may order it for you if you voice your desire.
