You know, I was disappointed in Insidious. I mean, I liked elements of it, but the movie asks you to buy way too much. Having shared that, I’d also like to share that I had a decent time with Sinister.

The plot concerns a true crime writer who has moved into a house whose prior residents were hung from a tree in the backyard. Looking to write a book on the event, our novelist uncovers a box of Super 8 home movies, which reveal themselves to be snuff films that are the handiwork of a child-eating demon that lives in images. Becoming obsessed with the films, our writer sets out to uncover the origin of the films.

I liked this film. It’s by no means perfect, and there are moments that are downright silly. There are also moments in the film that are predictable. Despite this, there is a palpable level of creep intrigue, and I ultimately feel that the film is worth a rental. There are some REALLY creepy moments here, such as the names of the Super 8 films or what they actually show (“Yard Work – HOLY #$@% !).

If you don’t like this film, that’s fine. It’s not a film that everyone will have a good time with. But I would like you to watch it and let me know what you think. Like I said, it has several flaws, so do tone down your expectations if you’re looking to have a good time.
