Local Up-and-comers Release New Singles

Some of Murfreesboro’s brightest and boldest young artists have recent released singles online just in time for summer.

Pop-rock duo Reign, featured in last month’s issue of the Pulse, returned with its new single, “Words Left Unsaid,” and their labelmates Chasing Lights released an anticipated single, “Good.” Both tracks are available on iTunes and Spotify.

Local songwriter AJ Gruenwald, who records as Bogues, revealed the first track from his upcoming EP, Mulligan, entitled “Sometimes.” The track is a stripped-down affair that sees Bogues question religion and other aspects of life much like revered local contemporary Julien Baker, with equally impressive results. You can find it on Bogues’ Bandcamp.

However, R&B artist Vann made the biggest splash this month. His latest single, “Backseat,” co-written with frequent collaborator Michael McQuaid, has racked up more than 20,000 plays on Soundcloud and has been featured by several national media outlets. The singer/songwriter says the steamy track, which interpolates 2 Live Crew’s “Face Down Ass Up,” was originally intended to be sent to Chris Brown, but it looks like it’ll do just fine sticking with Vann. You can stream it on Vann’s Soundcloud profile.
