Murfreesboro Celebrates the Fourth

Murfreesboro’s community Independence Day activities begin at the outdoor pool at Sports*Com at 10 a.m. Monday, July 4, with a pool party, games and prizes until 4:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for youth and seniors, $4 for adults. The evening activities in McKnight Park begin at 3:30 p.m. and admission to the family-oriented events will be free. There will be family games and activities for the kids, as well as inflatables. At 8 p.m., following the presentation of colors by the Murfreesboro Fire and Rescue Department Color Guard and singing of the national anthem by Lou Galterio, the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Brian Russell, will present a program of traditional patriotic tunes and inspirational classics. Greg Lawson will conduct the Murfreesboro Symphony as the group performs during a fireworks display by Pyro Shows, which will light up the sky at 9 p.m.

It is permissible to use fireworks within the City of Murfreesboro from July 3–5 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 11 p.m., but MFRD urges citizens to enjoy the public display of fireworks rather than risking the use of consumer fireworks.

If you do engage in some pyro play of your own, “Those using fireworks should be extra cautious and strictly follow the instructions on their fireworks,” said Assistant Fire Marshal Michael Bartlett, “and always make sure to have adult supervision.”
