Don’t Get Bored Murfreesboro

Let’s face it. The value of television in our daily lives is decreasing slowly but surely.

In a way, this is a good thing because it allows more time for unconventional ideas to come to the forefront.

Since Murfreesboro is considered “the Seattle of the South” (and for good reason) many people have resorted to indoor activities such as movies and video games. These things might get old after a while – though my roommate would argue to the death in support of video games! Either way, here are some underrated ideas that might expand your head (and/or

conversation).

1. Board games (and the like): Remember these? They allow you to converse with multiple parties, and typically, they will be more fun than you remember. Steer clear of games like Mousetrap (tedious) and Hungry Hungry Hippos (too loud), as these are examples of games that are not as fun as you remember. Go for games like Monopoly, Connect Four or Uno. You might be pleasantly surprised!

2. Read a book with a friend: To do this, you must have three key ingredients, a good book, a good friend, and at least one hour per week to spare. You know those times when you’re reading a really good book and you look up hoping someone will be there to share this excellent moment with, but nobody is there? Well now there can be someone.

Bask in the feelings that you are sharing an adventure together! Take turns reading, or if one person doesn’t mind reading that’s fine too.

My friend Chig and I are reading “The Egyptian” together (stories retold by Mika Waltari). This international best seller is my favorite novel because it

is based on true events

in ancient times. If you have a book that you

have been wanting to read again, take advantage of that feeling and DO IT! It will make you feel like a kid again.

Try something unconventional, Murfreesboro!

P.S. Hastings is my favorite place to read. They have free coffee!
