Stop by the Shack

Stop by the Shack

(In response to Vol. 3, issue 20’s review of The Chicken Shack)

I live in Raleigh, N.C., and whenever I am in the area, I make a special trip there.

I have tried several items on the menu, and my favorite is the chicken-catfish combo. If you want some of the best chicken in town, stop by!

Don’t Bury Your Heads!

The recent economic downturn in our country must be met by small business owners with a resounding call to arms! We need to spend less time worrying about the economy, and instead use the economic downturn to further our businesses’ interests. There is a reason why Wal-mart and McDonald’s thrive during a recession; they gain market share.

If your answer is to bury your heads in the sand and wait for the recession to end, then you are exactly what the “economic buzzards” are looking for. They will chop your head off and eat your body (business) whole! Go out there and get people to come in your door. Don’t just sit around and mope. They aren’t going to come to you, you have to go to them.

It’s time to reach new people and give them a reason to come to your business. It’s time to bring in new money to keep your business afloat, not struggle to get by on your savings. The economy will turn around sooner or later, but until it does, the guy yelling the loudest will not only survive, but THRIVE!

The answer is to stay busy by offering the public a deal. That’s what they are searching for now more than ever.

Statistics and history tell us that the business that does the same amount or more advertising during the recession increases its profit by five times in the year after the recession ends. The businesses that cut their advertising budget not only lose their market share during the recession, but are not able to get it back once the good times begin.

So don’t wait for the customers to come to you?it won’t happen. Invite them in with advertising (can you really afford NOT to have it) and offering the best value possible.

Go See C.J.

(In response to last issue’s “C.J. Vaughn Cooks at the Mushroom”)

C.J. may be the most soulful young Blues singer/guitarist in Nashville. I’ve played guitar with him at Jam nights many times and I love his original take on classic Blues and Soul. As someone who has been playing music live and on the radio for over 20 years I know what I’m talking about. Do yourself a favor and go catch him before the ticket price goes up!

Lauren DuVall, what a great article! As a band we thank you for your story on C.J. Vaughn & Highway 58. Your writing is great and you should look forward to a great career in this business. Nevermind that you were writing about a GREAT band?Ha! Seriously, thanks for the very awesome story and layout!

? Ron & C.J. Vaughn, coldwaterentertainmentgroup@yahoo.com

I haven’t been to the Mellow Mushroom yet, but if that is where we can rock with C.J. you can bet we will make our plans to be there ASAP. C J and the band present an AWESOME show.

I was excited to see C.J. Vaughn on the cover of The Pulse. He is a great musician and a wonderful local talent. I have seen him perform for years and it’s exciting to see him get some well deserved publicity.

? Ami McFerrin, ami@larrysims.com

C.J. has an amazing special gift for expression through music. Don’t miss a chance to see him do what he do! I’m so glad to have been able to watch C.J. and I’m so thankful that he is continuing to keep this very real art alive.
