The newest edition of this horror parody series elicits few laughs. Scary Movie 4 is the definition of beating a dead horse. There are only so many times a child can be knocked around by oblivious adults and Carmen Electra can pull off tackiness before it loses its shock appeal.
Slapstick and parody are two of the easiest types of comedy, and yet this movie falls short on both accounts. The timing is too predictable and the satire is obvious.
Zucker, who also directed Airplane, Top Secret and BASEketball, seems to have run out of ideas and inspiration. The cleverest scenes of Scary Movie 4 are given away by the trailers, so there’s no need to spend the price of admission.
Although the actors do their best with the material, the script is simply not funny.
