Traditionally, feable Weiner is a band known for bantering with journalists in interviews; however, nowadays they’re finding more serious things to discuss.
Still, they do retain much of the classic ’weiner’ attitude.
’We lost rocking bass notes, but gained a cute face,’ said guitarist Josh Watson, regarding the band’s newest member, bassist Andrew Samples.
’We’ve always been a band that is all about having fun’that’s what keeps us from taking ourselves too seriously. When Andrew first joined the band it was trips to Camino and Mario-Kart that brought us together,’ said guitarist/front man Atom Andersen.
Yet with the future release of the band’s single, ’East Coast Girls,’ soon to be followed with the summer ’06 debut tour of its album titled 2FN HOT, Feable Weiner will shortly be revealing all of it’s most concentrated work.
’As a band, we wrote the songs on the album to be played live. The songs are more complex, which keeps us interested in the music while keeping fans involved.’
The songs on 2 FN HOT are far evolved from the band’s debut CD, Dear Hot Chick, released more than three years ago.
The group’s upcoming single, ’East Coast Girls,’ is a parody of Beach Boyesque melodies that quietly pays homage to the master’s of harmony.
Andersen said, ’We built in all of the clich’, ’Na Ah’ and ’Na Na’ sounds around a solid backbone of fun rock n’ roll.’
’We’ve always been a harmony band because it’s just more fun when two people are singing. The band began as just Atom and I singing in our shared room, so harmonies have always been part of our sound, Watson elaborated.
Assisting Feable Weiner’s aspirations in 2 FN HOT is fellow Murfreesboro alumni, mastermind of the band Self, Matt Mahaffey.
’When we got ready to do the new album we already knew what we wanted to achieve, but when we incorporated Matt he got us excited about doing it,’ Watson said.
Andersen remarked, ’We chose Matt because he is a harmony guy.
’Originally we wanted him to record Dear Hot Chick, but we wound up recording it in our house for budget reasons. Matt told us how awesome we are and that is what a good producer does for the bands that they are producing.’
Obviously, the musical genius of Self is the correct choice of studio supervision for an album with several intricate arrangements centered around harmony. Albums such as: Breakfast with Girls and Gizmodgery are classic examples of his studio talent and ability to add to the band’s sound.
’Matt was very enthusiastic during the recording process. His voice and other contributions can be heard in parts of songs.’ said Watson. ’This made him a big help in blending all of the arrangements.’
Beginning April 27 at The End, Feable Weiner will set out on an initial one-month tour around the Gulf and up to Chicago. After the summer release of its second album, the band will begin a 10-to-11-month tour.
Commenting on the tour, Andersen said: ’We plan to do a coast-to-coast tour and also parts of the U.K. It’s comes natural for us to be the indie band who is constantly hustling; after the release of Dear Hot Chick we were on the road for almost a year.’
Soon to be evident, Feable Weiner fans and skeptics alike will be unable to deny the band’s progression in 2 FN HOT. Anyone who enjoys synth and keys fused with air-guitarable riffs will probably find it to be worthy listening.
