When I spoke of Wal-Mart’s uneducated workforce (Rolling Back Prices, Issue 15), I was speaking for the national-average Wal-Mart employee. Writing a different version of the article for every Wal-Mart store seemed like a great idea, but my editor would surely have passed on the story and my lifespan is limited.
College towns naturally have a large number of overqualified workers, especially schools with programs with high enrollment and low job placement, not to name any names, but it’s a four letter word and you can say it to grandma.
I do respect that the store provides stable employment, but there’s something to be said for instability. Though an unstable job can result in a reduced salary, there’s an equal chance of the financial pendulum swinging the other way.
Talk to Mike Curb about taking risks.
Thanks for your letter Casey, and enjoy your work week.
