Alien Abduction Swindle

It is a rare day when I refer to something as my “favorite.”

That said, I boldly claim these two movies as my favorite alien abduction films!

As my title suggests, this assertion is a bit of a swindle. Although they both have an alien abduction reference, it is far from the central theme in either case.

Mysterious Skin

Mysterious Skin

Mysterious Skin is an intense film from director Greg Araki. It is a parallel story about two young men who shared a common experience as children. One character seemingly lives his life based on the event, while the other is searching for its truth and meaning, as it has been mostly erased from his memory.

There are great performances by all, but especially from Chase Ellison, who plays Neil.

Araki does not hold back in a story about how past events can affect future lives. This one is not for children or the easily upset.

Life of Brian

Life of Brian

John Cleese, of Monty Python fame, has claimed that Life of Brian is his favorite work done by the troupe.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Brian is born on the same day as Jesus, and is even momentarily mistaken for Him as an infant. The politics and religion of the day are brilliantly satired. Brian gets caught up in a radical political terrorist organization as he searches for himself and his place in society.

All this plus an outlandish alien abduction sequence. The song at the film’s conclusion makes for a perfect ending.

Until next time, I hope you have a great viewing experience.  Comments are welcomed at cinespire@gmail.com.
