Ask Amy

Dear Amy,
All the girls I hung out with last year never call me or hang out with me anymore. They have boyfriends now, but I’m beginning to think that maybe they never really liked me or that I have done something wrong. We used to have so much fun and I miss that! What should I do?
? Please help, Jayda

Dear Jayda,
You should treat your friends like a sister or a brother. True friends are your siblings, or a part of your family. You should be able to cuss them out, call them geeks, and even take separate paths for a few months, knowing that they will still be there for you when you need them.
Even if your friends from last year never call you, it doesn’t mean they hate your face, they simply might just be busy with other things. Boyfriends and girlfriends play a big part in the “cooling” of a friendship. This time last year your friendship was intense because you were their side kick, or vice versa. Crashing parties, laughing the loudest at the movie theatre, and random nights with the Murfreesboro Police Department killed downtime during their single days. But finding that guy that makes you laugh or that girl with the perfect body can cut friendship time in half, and even remove it from the agenda.
Just remember though, true friendships might cool down, but they’re not dead cold. Eventually, your girl friends will come around and crawl out of their boy toys’ ass. Good luck.

Dear Amy,
We’ve been playing in a band for years and we have a good heavy sound going, but it seems all the successful bands are just a bunch of pretty boys dressed up like a fashion show playing simple, uncreative music. We generally wear tattered T-shirts and jeans.
Guide us, oh wise one, in the ways of fashion. Be our stylist. How can we impress the crowd and be the object of desire to throngs of fans?
? Dazed and Confused

Dear Dazed and Confused,
Bands that are separated from the rest should make a statement, but not too bold of a statement where the crowd might misinterpret muscle shirts and handkerchiefs for a lack of talent. You just want to have enough edge so you are remembered, and you probably don’t want to look like you just woke up.
Here are two ways you can represent your band: either give the entire band a specific theme, or individually create a specific look for each band member. For example, your band could wear matching apparel, with slight varying differences that would define individual personalities. Black would probably be appropriate for a hard rock or grunge band. Depending on what kind of statement you want to make, you could come across as classic and forceful with dressier clothing, such as pin stripe black pants, or focus on a style that is closer to home with the tattered T-shirts, either with a specific color or look. My choice would probably be both though; tattered t-shirts and pin stripe black pants would definitely catch my attention.
If you want to individually have signature styles, then focus on key elements that represent your band members, such as a black top hat, or a bright red tie. Just remember, whatever you decide, your band is a force to be reckoned with and as long as you know your band is unique and rockin’ hard, your stage presence and fashion decisions will reflect that.
