Hazzard County lives on: Dukesfest draws thousands

Fans of The Dukes of Hazzard poured into Nashville’s Music City Motorplex June 2 – 3 for the annual Dukesfest, a two-day celebration featuring bluegrass and country music, cast appearances, a massive display of General Lees, wrestling and a spectacular “Hazzard County” stunt show.

The show’s original stunt team gave a demonstration of the wild car action that was a staple of The Dukes of Hazzard.

“We can’t have DukesFest without putting a few cars in the air,” said Dukesfest producer Ben Jones, who also played Cooter on the series.

Additionally, a parade featuring hundreds of General Lee replicas provided another highlight of the weekend.

Jackie Cantrell and her son Jaxon won a set of tickets from The Murfreesboro Pulse and got the opportunity to take in the weekend.

“It was great,” Cantrell said. “My favorite was when Bo jumped in a Lee and drove around the track with the rest of the parade. I was standing on the track steps and he came right in front of me and said YEE HAAAH . . . I used to be so in love with John (Schneider, who played Bo Duke).

“I used to watch the show religiously. I turned Jaxon on to it and he watches it all the time and since last year he has been wanting to go to Dukesfest,” Cantrell continued. ”Winning the tickets was the best. The Pulse rocks.”
