Guilty Pleasures

A good majority of the movies I enjoy and recommend are serious in nature. Alternately, I appreciate and suggest many outlandish cult films. It is far less frequent that I can embrace most mainstream movies, or comedies in general. Here are two I can pull out of the comedy closet in order to expose my guilty pleasures in full view.

Run Ronnie Run

Run Ronnie Run

Run Ronnie Run is a satirical celebration of contemporary Southern culture (I’m meanin’ to say rednecks). Ronnie’s gift is his uncanny ability to be picked up by the police for the numerous misdemeanors and petty felonies that he commits. His talent is soon recognized on a show similar to COPS, which lands him his own national TV show. There are many funny sequences, including some short bits with Jeff Goldblum and Jack Black. I also admire some of the editing choices in a couple of it’s stylized scenes.

Orgazmo

Orgazmo

Orgazmo is Trey Parker’s silly spoof on the adult film industry. A devout Mormon goes on a soul-saving mission trip to Hollywood, and contemplates raising money for his upcoming wedding back in Utah. He is soon lured into playing Orgazmo, a preposterous super-hero character in a porn film.

Highly irreverent, Orgazmo also features the prolific porn star, Ron Jeremy, who somewhat recently participated in a controversial debate at our beloved MTSU in 2004.

Until next time, I hope you have a great viewing experience. Comments are welcomed at cinespire@gmail.com.
