Assault at local party
On Friday, Aug. 17, at a party held by the local funk band SkiHy, My friend and I were randomly and viciously assaulted. My wallet and my phone were stolen, and I was left with some very serious injuries.
My jaw was split in half, and fractured in several other places. My friend was lucky to escape with just a few bruises.
The assault was carried out by a group of 3-6 black men.
The incident began when my friend and I met two girls at the party who asked us if we wanted to smoke a cigarette by their car. The girls appeared to be somewhere between 16 and 25 years old. One of them was a light skinned black girl, and the other was a while girl with long dark hair to the middle of her back. She seemed to have a Latina look to her. These girls led us out as far away from people as they could into a dark area, before we were jumped and robbed.
It was obviously a setup. It occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday morning while SkyHi was performing.
As it stands, I have had surgery to repair my jaw, and it has gone very well. I expect to be able to open my mouth and eat solid food again in about six weeks.
The pain is extreme, but what is worse is that as a recent MTSU graduate, I have no job, which means no insurance.
The hospital has been great, and expressed a desire to help me financially, but this by no means should be their burden.
Because of this, I would like to graciously ask everyone in town to start asking around for information regarding this incident.
As a group, and as a community, we have the ability to find these people out and hold them accountable for this senseless act of violence and theft.
Also, everyone familiar with SkyHi as a band, and the SkyHi hosted parties, knows that these criminals are not the normal type of people who go to these events. To everyone who wants to help keep these parties as awesome as they have been, I request help.
If anyone has ANY information regarding the incident, please e-mail me at penguingroove@gmail.com, or call me at (615) 336-4515. Seeing as my mouth will be wired shut for the next six weeks, e-mail would probably be better. But don’t hesitate to leave a phone message with any information you might have.
Also, feel free to respond anonymously. Thank you all.

Potter fan speaks up
[The following is in response to last issue’s Gagflex, in which Jason Johnson called the Harry Potter series, and those who read the books, juvenile and said “you’ll have to forgive me for not being excited about a bunch of adults going gaga over a children’s book.”]
I think the writer of this story is wrong. It’s all a matter of opinion and what you like.
I love all the Harry Potter books, and I am a 29-year-old woman. But it’s because I like stuff about wizards and magic and such.
I hate romance novels, but I wouldn’t put them down because I know other people love them. That’s just kinda’ rude.
Like I said, it’s all a matter of opinion.
