Fab Four fans gather at World Outreach for Beatles tribute program

Music Director Jeffrey A. Reed and the amazing Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra kicked off the 2007 – 08 season with a Beatles tribute concert performed by nine-piece rock band The Rewinders, as well as copies of the original Beatles recordings, at World Outreach Church on Friday, Oct. 5.

They started the evening with “Magical Mystery Tour,” which was a great intro with three- and four-part harmonies. This led into “Fool on the Hill,” which paid great attention to detail, actually the case with every song performed that evening, including “Penny Lane,” “When I am Sixty-Four,” “Help,” “With a Little Help From my Friends,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “She Loves You,” “Let It Be” and many other selections from the Beatles career.

When they played “Eleanor Rigby” (always one of my favorite Beatles songs), I was impressed once again how precise and true to the original they played. Next they played the crowd favorite?of course, “Yellow Submarine.“

“The Long and Winding Road,” featured one of the most beautiful orchestral arrangements I have ever heard.

At intermission, I noticed how the music of The Beatles had a universal effect on people of all ages. People were telling stories of when they first saw or heard The Beatles, back in the days of free love, hippies and real music. Many people remembered exactly what they were doing when they heard certain songs. I won’t go into details.

The second half of the show was just as great as the first, beginning with “Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” and ending with “Carry that Weight.” After this song there was about a five-minute standing ovation as the crowd chants “encore, encore.” The MSO and Rewinders closed the evening with one of the most popular Beatles songs, “Hey Jude.” As the crowd held up their cellphones to pay homage to the lighter waves of the past, the singers came into the crowd with microphones letting us sing along: Naaaaa na na nana nana, nana nana, Hey Jude.

Retromadness: The Music of the Beatles, was a great night of fun and music.
