I’m back with a wrap-up of some of the old-school games available for download on the Wii’s Virtual Console. Featuring over 100 games, here are some favorites.

NES

Super Mario Bros. 2 1988, Action, Rated E

The sequel to one of the best games of all time is also a classic but was never really meant to be the true sequel. Nintendo actually took a Japanese game and switched the characters with Mario and others because the original sequel was said to be too difficult for western gamers. The real sequel released in Japan is known as Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels here in the West. You can also download that game off the Virtual Console.

Kirby’s Adventure 1994, Action, Rated E

One of Kirby’s first games on the NES and also one of his best. A pretty easy game to get through, but it’s a really fun Nintendo classic.

SNES

Super Metroid 1994, Action, Rated E

Many believe this game to be the best Metroid game ever and one of the best side-scrolling adventure games to date. A must own download for only $8.

Kirby’s Dream Course1994, Sports, Rated E

Another Kirby game! Using Kirby’s ability to steal enemy’s powers to get a hole-in-one makes this game of golf unique.

SEGA GENESIS

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 1991, Action, Rated E

The sequel to the game that made the Genesis so great is actually better and an even more polished game than the first. Introducing a two-player mode using Tails, it allowed a whole new way to play.

Virtual Fighter 21995, Fighting, Rated T

One of the most overlooked fighting games on the Genesis, competing with Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat, is one of the greatest 3D arcade fighters and one of the better fighting games on the Virtual Console.

N64

Mario Kart 64 1997, Racing, Rated E

One of the best games on the N64 is available to download for $10. I can remember playing this game with friends for hours. This download will keep you content until the release of the new Mario Kart for the Wii.

Paper Mario 2001, RPG, Rated E

The world of Super Mario Bros. mixed with role-playing elements, and it still feels like a real Mario game.
