Zumba Latin dance aerobics offers a fun and fresh new way to get fit.
Every New Year brings a variety of resolutions. A fitness plan is one of many that are made.
There are several ways to get in shape, but having fun makes it all worthwhile. One activity with both these elements is Zumba, a new fitness routine that combines learning dance moves and getting fit.
The Murfreesboro Athletic Club (MAC) hosts these sessions for members every day.
Upon stepping into the studio one must find a spot to work out quickly because the room fills up with eager participants. Once the music begins, a person can start to feel as if they are on vacation in a warm South American city. Immediately the instructor, Keila (pronounced Kayla) Valdivieso, jumps in and revs the students up. Participants look more like they are dancing rather than enduring an aerobic workout. The session lasts for an hour and is packed with fast-paced Latin moves.
The instructor informs everyone what body parts they are exercising throughout the workout, all while not skipping a beat.
Ashley and Karen are two MAC members who have been coming to the Zumba aerobic sessions since last October. Both became interested in attending the class because it is “dance associated.”
Ashley described a session as “energetic and tiring.”
Karen described it as “energy packed from beginning to end” and “tantalizing and seductive.”
The difficulty level is very low and anybody can try it. An observer cannot resist sitting on the sidelines for long because everyone seems to throw caution to the wind and have a good time.
Valdivieso is one of three instructors and has been teaching Zumba since last June.
“No experience is required and people learn different Latin rhythms to different Latin dances,” she says.
When asked what areas this dance aerobics target, she informs, “Everything. You’re burning calories and sculpting.”
Valdivieso recommends to anyone looking to shape up to attend a session three times a week in order to see results over a period of time. One student she has seen on a regular basis has lost 25 pounds since October.
So if you have made a resolution to get fit this year, why not make it fun and fresh. Zumba offers all that and is guaranteed to be a heart-pumping activity from beginning to end.
