Iwalked into Bluesboro not long ago, closed my eyes and I swear to you, I thought Led Zeppelin made a secret stop!
Allow me to tell you about Black Dog, Murfreesboro’s newest Zeppelin tribute band. These guys smoke! They kick the snot out of any Zeppelin cover band I’ve seen in these parts. The only way you’re going to hear Zeppelin performed better is to travel back in time to 1970 and see them at their peak.
I’ll even say Led Zeppelin today can’t perform Zeppelin like these guys. Ok . . . blasphemy! I retract that statement, but I felt like that for a night.
Black dog is composed of brothers Jason “Kid” Peterson on drums and Scott “just Scott” Peterson on bass, Seth Stroud on lead vocals, and David Massey on lead guitar. I know you’re saying ”No way can anyone touch Zeppelin,” but I’m telling you: Go see these guys!
To watch Kid break “Moby Dick” in half is something to marvel at. I don’t marvel at much, but I own the Zeppelin DVD and I understand the wonder that John Bonham was. Kid would make him proud.
The Petersons stay true to the most powerful rhythm section ever and rock it, Massey takes the lead guitar and makes me think Page should have stayed a little more on the sober side, and Stroud recreates every nuance Robert Plant uttered.
I want to see Black Dog and Zoso go toe to toe?watch my boys from Black Dog put those old heads to rest.
The last thing I love about Black Dog is they’re not trying to recreate Zeppelin, just the music. But what really gets me pumped is thinking this is probably just a phase. Rumor has it the guys are using Zeppelin to get tight before they move into the world of originals. So you better go see the Zeppelin set before they ramble on to their own thing.
Black Dog plays next at The Boro Bar and Grill for the big 4-20 celebration.
