If you like to get dressed up for a night out on the town, local Murfreesboro band The Hellbillies can provide the entertainment and make sure you have a good time as well.
A Hellbillies show is an event and does not involve sitting around quietly while watching the band. They will make sure nobody gets dressed up for nothing.
The Hellbillies’ members are lead vocalist, Mongoose McNichols, guitarists Fetus McGillicutty and Trey Call, drummer Tommy Rockford, bassist Marshall Arts and support vocalists Rachel French and Nicole Arnett. The band will mark its fifth anniversary in October and have four shows scheduled between now and then, with opportunities to cut loose and have some fun at Wall Street on May 2 and Bluesboro on June 13.
They have a philosophy that could sum up their style. It comes from Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth: “It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you look.”
The band is a creative bunch, and each show brings new ways to entertain the audience, from a homemade robot to movie trailers of B-horror films playing behind the band as the members perform.
“It’s all about having fun, and people like to come out and have fun too,” says guitarist Trey Call.
The audience is always encouraged to participate at the shows. Participation from the audience may include sitting in the “hot-chick-drinking-beer” chair, getting up on stage with the band or grabbing a fellow audience member to dance to one of the songs.
Songs that are performed are a mix between covers like “Folsom Prison Blues” to Hellbillies’ originals such as “Nashville’s Burning.”
“It’s really an excuse to let your hair down . . . some people like to drink beer and watch football, we like to drink beer and rock out,” says lead singer Mongoose McNichols.
