On Friday, Aug. 22, the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra will perform an encore performance of last year’s wildly successful Beatles tribute: “Retromadness: The Music of the Beatles,” featuring The Rewinders!
The performance begins at 8 p.m. at World Outreach Church, 1921 New Salem Rd. in Murfreesboro.
“More than 400 people rocked World Outreach Church during last year’s performance,” said MSO Conductor and Music Director Jeff Reed. “We knew we had to bring it back. There’s just no better way to kick off the 2008-2009 concert season.”
The rock band, The Rewinders, is composed of nine musicians hand-picked by Reed in 2001 for the sole purpose of performing “record copies” of hits from some of biggest acts of the ’60s and ’70s. The Rewinders also perform concerts with themes of Motown, country and one-hit wonders.
The 2007 Retromadness performance with the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra lasted more than 2 hours. This year’s set list will include classics like “Hey Jude”, “Help!” “All You Need is Love” and many more.
“During intermission last year, I heard people saying they would close their eyes and just be transported back to the ’60s,” said Birdie Ann Donnell, MSO Board President. “And the Rewinders don’t wear silly costumes or talk in fake accents. To Jeff and The Rewinders, the show is 100 percent about paying tribute to the music.”
Reed said the later years of Beatles music was so complex and intricate, that the band would never even perform it live.
“Many of the songs we perform during this concert were never performed by the original members in front of an audience,” he said.
