Ladies and gentleman of the ’Boro, the train is ready to roll out of the station with some football knowledge for you. Just a little bit about myself: I am a sports genius. Don’t ask me where it comes from?I just get it from my mama!
Oh my, I can smell the football season upon us. Fresh beer, loaded nachos and first downs for my team all year long. I am a Tennessee boy, and folks expect greatness this year.
I can’t wait to see how much the Titans will improve from their previous year. Last season’s success with a 10-6 record came mainly from a great running game that was short and pounding, and a hungry defense that was always around the ball, playing big-boy, hit-you-in-the-mouth football.
Last season, Vince Young had more interceptions (17) than touchdowns (9). Hopefully, with Norm Chow gone, and old school Heimerdinger back in the ’Ville, he can help sculpt Young into an elite, mistake-free quarterback.
Young, now 17 – 11 as a starting quarterback in the pros, did manage to improve his passer rating from 51.5 his rookie year to 62.5 in 2007. Mr. Young, let’s keep those numbers rising for a highly anticipated 2008 season and take us a bit further than a wild-card game.
As a Titans fan you can be nothing more than grateful to have Jeff Fisher as a head coach. This man is one of the best and has the longest tenure with any one team among active NFL head coaches.
Am I excited to see Chris Johnson step up and play some ball. This lightning bolt first-round pick had me and others wondering what the hell the Titans were thinking, taking a running back in the first round. Nobody’s talking anymore, this boy is quick and strong?the little man benches 375 pounds. He even has the whole defensive line of the Titans talking. Albert Haynesworth himself said “That boy’s got strength, speed and the heart to be an every-down back.”
But let’s not forget about Mr. Big Boi, Lendale White. This 2007 standout surprised many doubters with great feet, breaking tackles and, best of all, falls forward. In 2007 he had a 1,000+ yard season and has five 100+ yard games. Don’t forget about his durability?he started all 16 games last season.
