Guitarist Scott Holt, formerly of the Buddy Guy Band, will perform Saturday, Aug. 11, at 10 p.m. at Bluesboro Rhythm and Blues Co.
Holt will appear at Bluesboro with his own band, with whom he has recorded six albums and logged thousands of shows and millions of miles all over the U.S. and Canada.
“I’m blessed to be surrounded by people who are supportive and have a band that shares my vision,” says Holt, “I’ve always believed that music played from the heart is a form of prayer. That’s what the Blues is to me, it’s the sound of the human spiritual heart rejoicing or crying or doing both at the same time.”
Holt met Buddy Guy backstage at one of his shows in 1987, it was that night that changed his life forever when Guy invited Holt to come the next day for a personal lesson with him. Over the course of the next year, he was occasionally invited to sit in at Guy’s performances and then in 1989 Guy called Holt and asked him to join his band.
“I can’t speak for him, but I think he saw that I wanted to learn and be a part of this music, that I was serious and he responded to that,” says Holt.
Holt would be in the Buddy Guy band for the next 10 years until he made the decision to go out on his own.
“I look at it now as sort of phase two of my education. In other words, all the lessons I learned from Buddy, I then had to go put into practice,” says Holt.
The Bluesboro Comedy Zone will precede the blues performance and tickets are available for both shows for $12. For more information, visit bluesborolive.com or call (615) 907-1115.
