Symphony program features pieces inspired by sports

The Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra will begin its regular season performances with a tribute to select sporting events in “Be a Good Sport” beginning at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Murfreesboro First United Methodist Church.

Music Director Jeffrey Reed will present a pre-concert talk about the music to be performed at 6:45.

This concert of the Murfreesboro Symphony Orchestra celebrates the music of the sporting world. Pieces like Bach’s “Hunt Cantata,” Rossini’s classic “William Tell Overture” (archery), Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Dance of the Tumblers” (gymnastics), Randy Newman’s “The Natural” (baseball), and the movie hit “Rocky” (boxing).

The orchestra is lead by music director Jeff Reed, known for his method of combining classical and popular music on the same program.
