The MTSU basketball program’s Sixth Man organization held its tipoff party Thursday, Oct. 16, at the beautiful Messick home in Lascassas.
Bonfish Grill, Jim and Nick’s and Stones River Total Beverages provided refreshments for the crowd, while local pickers and singers Nick and Seth offered some musical entertainment.
MTSU Athletic Director Chris Masarro presented men’s basketball coach Kermit Davis with a basketball from the coach’s 100th win with the program. The milestone win was set against South Alabama in the semifinals of last year’s Sun Belt Conference tournament.
“I wish we could have made it 101 last season,” Davis said, noting just one more victory would have given the Blue Raiders the conference title and a spot in the NCAA tournament.
Davis, named last season’s Sun Belt coach of the year, said he wants to see the Murphy Center saturated with blue this year and for the MTSU fans to rally behind their team, particularly when the University of Tennessee Volunteers come to town. The Vols, ranked by many preseason polls in the top 10 in the NCAA, come to Murfreesboro Nov. 21.
