After months of anticipation, The Features finally graced Murfreesboro with their presence once again. There were a few times within the past seven months or so in which the buzz of the town was that The Features were coming, but nobody knew when or where. There were even a few “fake-outs,” though not on the part of the band or anyone in particular?when people want to see a band, grasping onto any possibilities of them coming is easy. In the end, The Features really did return for their long-overdue show, and it was perfect.
They cranked out songs from new and older EPs alike: some of my favorites, i.e., “The Skirts” and “Exhibit A,” and the crowd was full and alive. There was so much energy that everyone was bursting with happiness! Fellow Pulser Rachel Johnson was practically swinging around in the ceiling rafters to get some good photos of the band.
The turnout was so good that the elevated area in Main Street served as “shoulders” for the short people (like myself) and also for the tall people wanting to sit . . . though there weren’t many. Some “old school” faces appeared throughout the night, which was comforting amongst the multitudes of new people in the ’Boro.
One interesting thing about this particular band’s shows is that the crowd is always drastically changing. Many different types of people enjoy The Features, and the surprise always comes when certain things are expected at a show and still the element of surprise is always pleasant. Everyone was moving and dancing, eating, drinking and being more than merry.
Regretfully enough, this evening was made even more ridiculous when I tried the most amazing chicken wings I have ever had in my life (surprise!) and was upset that I could have been enjoying them all along! Either way, I know about the wings now and highly recommend them.
Between The Features putting on an incredible show, the camaraderie between all the people at the show, and the extremely tasty food, nobody could ask for much more. I swing my hair for The Features at 527 Main Street!
