The Blue Rooster Bar and Music Hall hosted another Pulse showcase on May 27 with live bands, unique art, good friends and, of course, beer.
The May installment of the monthly showcase featured the music of Jeffrey Joslin, Exit 42 and Rollo Greb on the Blue Rooster stage.
“I’ve never been to the Blue Rooster before, but I’m liking the mix of music going on tonight,” said 25-year-old Justin Mater from Franklin.
Rollo Greb, Exit 42 and Jeffrey Joslin are all local acts, as are most of the artists featured in the series, and can frequently be found performing around Murfreesboro and Nashville.
Exit 42 has slight rock edge to its Southern sound, Jeffrey Joslin’s music has a serenading, but catchy, feel and Rollo Greb brought out some high-energy Southern jam to the mix.
Local art was available in the lounge area of Blue Rooster with four different displays.
Artists Jeff Bertrand, Abigale R. Horne and Neil Mattis had tables with pieces for purchase. Jewelry from Dusty Brown was also available. The art ranged from paintings of Civil War battles, canvas bags with unique pictures and flasks with faces of famous alcoholics painted on them.
The next Pulse showcase will be Wednesday, June 24, featuring the Jake Leg Stompers as the main attraction. The Jake Leg Stompers is a band that will take you back to the days of beginning World War II. The band plays such novel instruments as the washboard, spoon, kazoo, saw, fiddles and even ukeleles. Their band “mascot” is a story about a man called Limber Louie, who can find you a great speakeasy along the Mississippi.
The Jake Leg Stompers is a roots music band that aims to bring the sounds of the past to a new light. The instruments are all authentic with the sound still reminiscent of the old days of the South.
The name “Jake Leg” comes from a medicinal tale of drinking a Jamaican ginger extract called jake, which in turn causes paralysis. Jake leg affected many musicians at its peak and rendered many unable to perform.
The Stompers have brought their unique performance to all over, including a performance at Bonnaroo’s Solar Stage in 2006. Check out The Jake Leg Stompers at myspace.com/jakelegstompers to preview some songs.
Joining them on June 24 will be the duo of Stephen Gallagher and Zach Kerber.
Gallagher’s family has been crafting Gallagher Guitars in Wartrace for the past 40-plus years, so he knows a thing or two about pickin’. Joining him for a team effort, Kerber has written songs since the age of 15, and he has been playing bluegrass and country music from an even earlier age.
So once again, The Pulse and the Blue Rooster will celebrate the phenomenal talent in the area at the June showcase.
