The experts, so-called, are finally starting to come around to the reality of the current political situation. As I’ve written before in this space, I see a storm brewing that will put 1994 to shame.
The liberals in Congress somehow thought the electorate would simply stand by while they dismantled this capitalist nation and replaced it with socialism. They were wrong. The town hall meetings during the August recess proved to be a groundswell of dissatisfaction this nation has seldom seen.
But the pundits are just now starting to understand what’s going on. Politico.com recently ran a story where they acknowledged that President Obama is having a bit of a difficult time. “Some of the most prominent and respected handicappers can now envision an election in which Democrats suffer double-digit losses in the House,” they wrote, but they still don’t think it’s enough to return power to the Republicans. Oh, yeah. Hide and watch.
If the Republicans themselves truly understand what’s going on and capitalize on it, we’ll see a power shift to the right so fast we may suffer a collective whiplash.
The town hall anger is real. No, it’s not just about healthcare. Healthcare just happened to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. It was the bank bailouts, the auto bailouts, the stimulus package, the cash-for-clunkers program. It was all of it. As I told you months ago, the socialists in the White House and Congress tried to take you too far too fast. But, of course, they had no choice, really. Obama knew he had to get as much of his socialist program passed before we roll into the election year or it would be too late. In other words, this was an all-the-money-in gamble. It still is. The last card has yet to be turned over. However, the odds are starting to turn against the socialists.
Ordinary Americans, many of whom voted for Obama, are now starting to feel uncomfortable at the pace of government takeover. Had you told most Americans just a year ago that the federal government would control the financial sector and set salaries for executives, they never would’ve believed you. Had you told them that two-thirds of the American auto industry would be owned by the federal government and that the president would fire the CEO of General Motors, they never would’ve believed you. Had you told them that we would be on the verge of turning the entire healthcare industry over to the government, they would have told you to stop with such nonsense.
It’s here, folks, and it’s real. Our country has been completely transformed in less than a year. A recent incident at a town hall meeting staged by Rep. Jim Moran (D-Va.) pretty much summed it up. A protester tried to simply walk on the school grounds where the meeting was taking place with a poster that read, “Organizing for National Socialist Health Care–The Final Solution.” In the middle was the now-famous image of Obama as the Joker from the Batman movie. Officer Wesley Cheeks Jr. told the protester he could not come on the property with that sign. Apparently, the officer didn’t like the sign, but heretofore, it has not been the prerogative of a school security officer to decide such matters. When the protester questioned the officer’s authority to keep him from displaying the sign, he was threatened with arrest.
“This used to be America,” the protester exclaimed. Officer Cheeks replied, “It ain’t no more, OK?”
If liberals ever wondered what it is that has the rest of us so upset, that’s it.
