Local Students Play Works of Bach, Compete for Prize Money

Holy Cross Episcopal Church will host BachFest 2011 on March 26-27.

The Competition and Concert celebrating the works of Johann Sebastian Bach and other Baroque period composers is open to students grades 7-12 and college undergraduates who either reside or attend school in Rutherford County.

The top instrumentalist or vocalist in the junior high category will receive $100, with $500 going to the first place in the high school division and $600 in the collegiate division.

Required repertoire for all divisions to be drawn from the works of Johann Sebastian Bach or other Baroque composers. Memorization is not required.

Contestants must register by March 10.

Competition prize winners are expected to perform at the BachFest Prize Winners’ Concerts on Sunday, March 27, at 3 p.m. for the Collegiate Division and 6:30 for the High School and Junior High Divisions. The public is invited to both concerts.

Holy Cross Episcopal Church is located at 1140 E. Cason Lane.
