The Nashville Predators have had an up and down kind of season so far. Their record as of this writing is 31-21-8. They started out on fire, scoring at least one point in each of their first eight games, before hitting a five-game losing streak. The Predators have had 14 games this year that went into overtime, with nine of those ending in a shoot-out.
Nashville’s record in overtime games that haven’t gone into a shootout is a dismissal 0-5 this year, while their shootout record is very good at 6-3. If Nashville wants to win in the post-season, they will need to find a way to win in overtime, without going to a shootout; really good teams can find ways to win in overtime, and that’s what helps those teams win in the playoffs.
Nashville did pick up a key player at the end of February, Mike Fisher, that will help them come playoff time. Fisher came to the Predators by way of a trade with the Ottawa Senators. Fisher is an offensive-minded center, and someone who will score some points for the Predators, which is something the Predators need for the homestretch. Fifth to twelfth place in the Western Conference are separated by less than five points. Nashville sits tied with Los Angeles, Minnesota and Calgary with 70 points apiece and are currently sitting in seventh in the standings. Remember, only the top eight teams in each Conference make into the playoffs.
