Some Disturbed Gals

Most folks would probably categorize these films as psychological thrillers. Watch the ladies as they go plumb out of their heads with fear and paranoia. Their hallucinations are simply delicious. I highly recommend watching them in the order presented here.

Repulsion

Repulsion (1965) is Roman Polanski’s first English-speaking film. The beautiful Catherine Deneuve is simply remarkable as a young woman who is conflicted over her feelings toward sexuality. Time alone allows her to focus on the Repulsion, as her sanity increasingly deteriorates. Polanski’s early films were unique, and he was subsequently rewarded with respect and acclaim.

Black Swan

Black Swan (2010) is directed by Darren Aronofsky. Natalie Portman plays a young ballet dancer competing for the coveted role of Swan Queen. As she is put through the paces, she increasingly succumbs to the pressures she feels from the people around her. Sexual complexities only add to her confusion. Portman is very dedicated to this role, and Aronofsky is superbly suited for its orchestration.

Until next time, I hope you have a great viewing experience. Comments are welcomed at cinespire@gmail.com.
