Local Color got off to a fantastic start and I want to thank those of you who came out for the premiere taping Aug. 24 at Bluesboro Bar and Music Hall, and that was a bunch of you!
The evening started with powerful acoustic performances by Louise Mosrie and John Kelley before we turned the volume up to eleven. Two of the hottest local bands around, The Tendeez and Mize and the Drive, took the stage next and blew the doors off the packed out “blue” venue. Fortunately we can edit these shows before they go out on television!
To close out the evening, Asheville, N.C.’s, Woody Wood took the stage and put on what many were calling the best performance they had seen in Murfreesboro in 10 years. His rock band blew ‘em away at Bonaroo this year and he joined us on his way home from a month long Northeast tour for a special acoustic set.
Murfreesboro native and slide guitar virtuoso Quincey Meeks was in the crowd and joined Woody onstage for a few impromptu tunes, as well. The whole audience seemed to clap and sing along instantly; picking up Woody’s original melodies like a crumpled $100 they found on the sidewalk.
The MTTV premiere of Local Color will air Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. on Comcast Channel 10 in Rutherford County and online at mtsutv.org. New episodes of the original concert series will air every Thursday throughout the fall. You’ll find the full weekly schedule and lots of exclusive footage, including some of the unedited material that we can’t show on TV, at facebook.com/LocalColorMTSU.
The best part is we are taping these shows in front of live audiences, and not charging admission to anyone over the age of 21. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you and your friends to live out your childhood dreams of watching yourself dance on television. And, if your childhood dreams were of something more profound like saving the planet’s food supply or world peace, we talk about those things some, too.
