Area theater patrons have one last chance to go see a Disney classic at the Murfreesboro Center for the Arts. It is directed by Logan Huber, a relatively new face on the theater scene in Murfreesboro.

This is a condensed version of the Broadway Beauty and the Beast, and it has all the classic songs that will capture and inspire your child’s imagination such as “Be Our Guest” and “Beauty and the Beast.” This is a musical more for children from the ages of 4-12, but everyone will enjoy it. You parents out there will be able to take your children to a wholesome show with good morals and be able to watch your child’s face light up when the show begins.

Watch as Lydia McLaurin, a pretty and musically talented young starlet, gives her rendition of Belle, who is a strong-willed, intelligent girl who somehow manages to break through the tough and scary exterior of the Beast. I look forward to seeing her in more shows as she matures and develops her on-stage talents. Christian Powers gives life to the character of the Beast and gives a spot-on performance. He shows the audience how intimidating the Beast can be; all the while letting you know he just wants to be loved and to love in return. Powers is yet another young actor to be on the lookout for.

This set does leave something to be desired. The castle is beautifully done in purple with rocks to give it a medieval look. To help bring the majesty out of the castle, finer details could have been seen to; artwork would have been a nice touch. The lighting of the show also took away from the fairy tale feeling. If the castle had been kept in the darker lighting, the whole show would have given off the more mysterious “Tim Burton” vibe that Mr. Huber wanted to go for. The only major complaint I have for this show is that the microphones had feedback and popping noises; at times it will remind you a high school pep rally where the football coach is yelling into the microphone, and that reminder is not a good one.

Overall, I would recommend families and young couples to go see this show. This show is a classic fairy tale, and the younger children will melt your heart.
