Look Who’s Living in Tree Houses! – All month
This summer, families can spend some quality time hanging out in the trees with a visit to the Discovery Center Tree Houses through Sept. 7. This exhibit includes fun, hands-on ways to explore the important roles that trees play in providing homes for all sorts of wild things (including people!) and engages forest explorers of all ages in indoor nature explorations and the ecology of sustainable harvesting. Tree Houses is open Monday–Saturday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and on Sunday from 1–5 p.m. Admission is $6 per person; children younger than 2 are free. Johnny B and the Balladeers last YEAH! Fundraising performance! – Aug. 2

Build Stronger Community with Inaugural Literacy Day – Aug. 4
Join local non-profit Read To Succeed, Olive Branch Church, Linebaugh Library and United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties to celebrate literacy. On Aug. 4, Rutherford County will celebrate its first Literacy Day aimed at raising awareness of this important issue that effects the community on several levels. Beginning at 9 a.m., everyone is invited to join in a march beginning at Central Magnet School and ending at the Civic Plaza. There, community resources for improving literacy will be on hand to discuss available services, and guest speakers will address the many ways in which literacy intertwines with the overall strength of our community.

Coming Home: The Stories of Moving to Murfreesboro – Aug. 9

Basic Computer Classes for Seniors- Aug. 30
For seniors wishing they knew a little more about computers or are a little hesitant to ask questions about computers, Linebaugh Public Library (105 W. Vine St.) is offering a basic class Aug. 30, from 10 a.m.-noon, offering information on understanding the basic parts of a computer. The class will discuss computer hardware, software, basic computer terminology and encourage questions; participants will practice on computers, learning mouse skills and more. This event is free and open; no preregistration is required.

Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation Department- Youth Football and Cheerleading Sign-ups
-The Murfreesboro Football League is a non-travel recreational league located at the McKnight Park Youth Football Complex. The league consists of all levels from beginners to advance players. Coaches are trained through USA Football and stress the fundamentals of the game. This is for ages 5–13 (age as of Sept. 1, 2012), 5 and 6 year olds will play Flag and 7–13 will play tackle football. Registration will be held throughout the month of July. The fee is $70 per player.
-Cheerleading is a fantastic way to stay healthy and physically fit while building confidence. The sport promotes team building in a positive way. By improving flexibility and coordination, cheerleading develops well-rounded athletes. This camp is for ages 7–13. Registration will be held throughout the month of July. The fee is $30 for program and approximately $85 for uniforms.

MTSU EYH Girls Camp
Registration is ongoing for the Sept. 22 girls’ 2012 MTSU Expanding Your Horizons in Science and Mathematics conference. The 16th annual event will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. on campus. The Murfreesboro Hot Rod Cruise-In – Fridays
The Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club Cruise-in is a weekly Friday night hang out at The Avenue Murfreesboro (2615 Medical Center Pkwy.) through the first Friday in October. The cruise-in is open for members, non-members and anyone who wants to come out, relax and have a good time. There will be music, prizes and contests every Friday night. The show takes place from 5–9 p.m.; the cruise-in is open to all makes and models and is first come, first served. If the temperature is forecasted 100 degrees, there will NOT be a cruise-in.
