Legendary rock trio Primus brings its new concert concept to Asheville, N.C., later this month for Moogfest 2012.
Fans will be issued 3D glasses before the performance, which includes elaborate, psychedelic visuals, and the band improvising along with its visualist.
Primus joins Santigold, Nas, Middle Tennessee’s own Wick-In the Instigator and many other artists for the third annual Moogfest, the festival of electronic and visionary music that celebrates the innovative spirit of Bob Moog. This year’s event takes place Friday, Oct. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 27, in beautiful Asheville, the city Bob Moog called home.
Other recent lineup additions to this year’s fest include experimental rap outfit Death Grips, one of 2012’s most exciting and brazen acts. In addition, Moogfest welcomes Andy Stott, a much lauded UK dub techno DJ/producer, whose two 2011 albums Passed Me By and We Stay Together were high water marks for the genre.
Also joining the lineup is acclaimed composer and pianist Harold Budd. Budd is a deeply influential artist working at the forefront of ambient and drone music. Throughout his 50-plus-year career, he’s collaborated with the likes of Brian Eno, the Cocteau Twins and Robin Guthrie. For Moogfest, Budd will perform with bassist Keith Lowe. The two will be performing a set entitled “These Old Love Songs,” a selection of works from Budd’s extensive discography.
Moogfest is produced in conjunction with Moog Music and the City of Asheville and directly benefits the Bob Moog Foundation.
