The Murfreesboro Noon Exchange Club has announced a new location for the annual Memorial Day Weekend “Healing Field—Flags of Remembrance.”
The event, historically held near The Avenue, will move to its new location at 3041 Memorial Blvd. at Osborne Lane, next to Family Worship Center, across from Wilson Bank.
At 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, the grassy field will be transformed into a field of 800 3-foot-by-5-foot American flags on 8-foot poles in perfect rows and columns in an awe-inspiring tribute honoring those men and women who sacrificed their time, talents—in some cases, even their lives—for freedom and this great land. Each flag will fly in honor of a hero. Volunteers are needed to help post flags.
This year, Tennesseans who have perished in the War on Terrorism will have a flag in their honor, designated with a special yellow ribbon.
There will be a Closing Patriotic Ceremony at 5 p.m. on Memorial Day with prayer, a 21-gun salute and the playing of “Taps” before the sponsored flags can be retrieved from the Healing Field.
Families may sponsor a flag in advance or after the closing ceremony for $30 per flag in honor or memory of their personal hero. This is a change from previous years, so it is recommended that sponsors get their flag(s) early.
Corporate Sponsors are needed in order to make this Americanism project successful.
