Wakarusa Music Festival, June 5-8, 2014 returns to Mulberry Mountain for it’s 11th year with over 100 artists including STS9, Bassnectar, The String Cheese Incident, The Flaming Lips, The String Cheese Incident, Lettuce, EOTO, The Floozies, Wick-it the Instigator and more, hitting the six stages in the beautiful mountains of Ozark, Ark. Guests can expect a green friendly, family oriented community with workshops like hooping, meditation, live art, dancing, giant 3-D animation art, hammocks, LED lights and more. For years I have heard that Wakarusa is one of the best festivals out there. The lineup is always one-of-a-kind and the schedule fits everything perfectly with many artists playing more than one show. I wanted to get the opinions from past and future-attendees why someone should go to Wakarusa 2014 and what they are most excited about this year.
Luke Ridings- Nashville, TN,
“Waka is an example of what a community among trees would feel like to be a part of.”
Nick Cudd- Knoxville, TN,
“It’s got the small festival vibes with the bang of a big festival. It’s an epic combo of electronic and real instruments. And the satellite stage is the knees of all the bees! Floozies!”
Andrea Ferrell- Knoxville, TN
“Wakarusa is where you meet new friends and they become close to you because of the storms you survive together.”
Kishan Patel- Nashville, TN
“Mulberry Mountain is absolutely beautiful! It has one of the most eclectic lineups, and they cater the schedule perfectly for daytime to nighttime transitions. I love that they have basically music 24/7, and I love the sunrise sets.”
Landon Barnes- Murfreesboro, TN
“This is my first year, and there’s so much to be excited about like any other festival. But going to Wakarusa after hearing about it for so long has me mostly excited for the smaller names just as much as the mainstream artists. It’s not overwhelming. There’s room in the schedule to go explore art tents and grab a bite to eat, and then walk up to a tent where an artist you may have never heard of is playing.”
Jessica Mangano- Muncie, Indiana
“I went last year and we nicknamed the festival “Swamparusa” after the astronomical amount of mud that everyone had to trek through to get anywhere. It stormed and tornados touched down, and there was a point where I thought everyone might die, but it was one of my favorite festivals of the year. All the rain and mud was tough on morale but everyone kept a smile on and energy was great through the entire festival. I’d love to see Cheese on the mountain and be able to explore around in the beauty of the Ozark. so hopefully I’ll be able to make it this year. :)”
Michael Eder- Madison, AL
“The mud. That mud is so delicious.”
Lafont Johnson- Jackson, TN
“Waka is a good example of what the festival kid would want in a bigger event with nice variety and something always going on. I hate having to sleep and staying somewhere too long, because I have to catch all this other awesome stuff going on everywhere. I have a lot of reasons why Waka is awesome; it’s only 6 hours away I think and it’s so beautiful. I still need to see the water fall and you can swim; that’s always a plus.”
Darren Moscatelli- Memphis, TN
“Wakarusa is like no other place on earth. It’s impossible to leave the same person you were.”
Megan Maratita- Nashville, TN
It’s my first year, and I think I’m most excited about the actual environment of Wakarusa. I can’t wait to be at a “festival in beautiful mountains. It is definitely different than any other festival I have ever been to, and it is the main reason I HAD to go this year!”
