The Train Daddy is bringing sexy back, and that’s a fact! As always, bringing you sports news and life lessons, my way! When I write my articles I don’t think about what’s politically correct, or what some deem offensive and others don’t. Listen people the Train Daddy truly loves all the little children, all the children of the world, black and yellow blue and white, they are precious in his sight, or something like that. My style of sports writing comes from the heart and some portion of my brain, I gather all the information on a subject, come to a conclusion and just like Jay Z spits rhymes, the Train Daddy spits sports knowledge. I know some of my past stories have ruffled a feather or two; the Redskins name change article took its share of criticism and praise. But just like Jay Z, a lyrical genius some would say, we all have said things that some would disagree with, and that’s OK.
You can view all my past articles back to 2008 on boropulse.com. I recall the Donald Sterling story, the Michael Sam story, the one were I debated whether or not I believed there was a football league in heaven. I even did a story years back where I created Lady Football; I created a super women. I believe she had the body of Scarlett Johansson, some Jennifer Aniston features, a few Katy Perry parts, I created a masterpiece. Kind of like a superhero, she was Lady Football. Some called it sexist, and I called it funny and harmless. Listen my readers aren’t middle school kids uncomfortable with themselves, no, they’re sports fans and people who know how to laugh at a joke. They’re the good people who drive up to LP Field and use an entire bag of charcoal come game day. They’re MTSU fans who are at the stadium every Saturday dreaming of a day when MTSU truly can sell out their stadium and make real noise. Or they’re them good old Eastern Tennessee boys, up in the Smoky Mountains howling with Smokey the Dog, also dreaming of brighter days. This is America not Russia. We can think for ourselves say things some would deem inappropriate and then have an intellectual conversation about it. Why am I saying all this? Well, Tennessee Titans fans, I am sorry, I dread doing this article. It’s titled The Bad, The Bad and The Ugly, the story of the 2014 Tennessee Titans, and why they suck so badly!
It seems like a very long time since the days of Steve McNair, Eddie George, Frank Wycheck and Derrick Mason. There was hope and pride in the way that past team played week in and week out. The late Steve “Air” McNair played with every bone in his body bruised, and made fans root with a true passion. The days when Jeff Fisher led the Titans, the excitement of the Music City Miracle and a glorious Super Bowl appearance seem long behind us. While it may not be fair to compare any current or future Titans teams to this past team, it is fair to wish for a brighter future when things will not be in the disarray they currently are.
In the last article I released I put all the blame on Coach Whisenhunt for the Titans current QB situation. Prior to the season I knew the Titans were in trouble unless they handcuffed a solid backup to an injury-prone Jake Locker. I personally wouldn’t have let go of Ryan Fitzpatrick. The signing of Charlie Whitehurst was without a doubt the dumbest move made in a long time for the Titans. This move made little to no sense and the Titans are paying up to $8 million over 2 years for a quarterback who has made four starts in an eight-year career. During those starts he threw 3 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, and was sacked 13 times. In the end this move was made by Coach Whisenhunt, and the notion that Charlie was already familiar with his system doesn’t jive with me.
So what should the Titans do now? I have two ideas: just as the Colts Sucked 4 Luck, the Titans could Suck 4 the Duck. Just go ahead and blow the rest of the season in anticipation of landing Oregon Ducks Quarterback Marcus Mariota. OK, I get it, always play with pride, so here is the other idea. The Titans have three rookies worth finding out about: QB Zach Mettenberger, RB Bishop Sankey and OT Taylor Lewan. The coaching staff would be wise to roll with them as often as possible, find out what they have or don’t have. Zach should listen to J.J Watt, the best defensive player in the league, screw social media and focus on your craft, rookie. In Zach’s first NFL start he was allowed to drop back 48 times in a loss to the Texans. He completed 27 of 41 passes for a couple scores and a single pick, not a bad debut as far as numbers are concerned. The Texans have a heavy pass rush with Watt leading the way, and it was encouraging watching Zach not give up. Teach him, train Him and give him all the reps, it’s in your hands now Zach. Vince Young, Smelly Collins, Old Rusty Smith, Matt Hasselbeck, Fittzy Patrick, Charlie “Clipboard Jesus” Whitehurst, Jake “The Snake” Locker, and now it’s Zach Mettenberger. Yikes! The strength of the 2015 NFL draft appears to be at defensive end, receiver and running back. But supply and demand could put both Marcus Mariota and the Moron Jameis Winston in the Top 5 come this year’s draft. I understand that the signal caller position isn’t the only problem, but it starts there, I believe.
The running back situation is a combination of something with Sankey, Greene and McCluster struggling to produce. I was most excited about the receiving corps prior to the season, but their numbers are all down also. Justin Hunter was predicted to have a breakout season; he’s had moments but has been held to three catches or less in all but one game this season. Kendall Wright is on pace for a 700-yard season after posting over 1,000 last season and Nate Washington, old reliable, is on pace for 474 yards, his lowest since 2007. Tight End Delanie Walker has at least been a bright spot, one of the few. He leads the Titans with 475 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Way to go Delanie! The offensive line has been overwhelmingly disappointing and penalized far too often. They were graded by experts as one of the top lines in the league prior to the season. Taylor Lewan has been great, guards Andy Levitre and Chance Warmack have struggled, and Blind Side superstar Michael Oher sucks! I won’t say anything about the defense except I miss Bernard Pollard. My favorite hard-hitting troublemaker is out for the season, so sad. The specialists have done their job; punter Kern has a solid punt average and kicker Succop has made 11 of 13 field goals.
Listen, the Titans, sadly, are in the conversation of the worst teams in the league along with the Jaguars, the Raiders, the Buccaneers and the Jets. It’s still a must for fans, such as the famous Me-Ma and other true Code Blue-bleeding fans, to not let this destroy your faith. No fair-weather fans here. It’s rough times and during rough times you debate why your team sucks and then you hope for a brighter future. The fans dictate coaches being fired, players being let go. They are are voices in the stands, and on the radio shows.
The only thing I am looking forward to as a Titan fan right now is watching Zach Mettenberger. Come on kid, play well, and fans will get pumped up. It’s not like we expect a playoff run, just progression at the signal caller position.
Let’s end this with a happy birthday shout-out to the Me-Ma, the greatest Titan fan out there. The Me-Ma and the Train Daddy were both born on Nov. 5, a great day to birth a True Titans fan!
Happy Birthday to you!!! Love reading Z-Train on the titans. I’m ready for the game today and feel good about it. We can bring it in. see you soon, Mema
