Wizard World is a touring comic convention that travels around the country to give fans unique experiences with their favorite TV and film actors, comic book artists and writers. Since 2013, they’ve included Nashville on their itinerary and brought tons of vendors, creators and stellar programming to Middle Tennessee. Former guests have included Marvel legend Stan Lee, Captain Kirk himself William Shatner and Star Wars’ Billy Dee Williams, and this year’s panelists won’t disappoint. With everyone from Firefly stars and the voice of Winnie the Pooh to Wizard World-approved cosplayers and two guys who were in CHiPs, there’s bound to be someone that will make you geek out.
Who to See:
The Dukes of Hazzard
The stars of one of the South’s most treasured TV shows, The Dukes of Hazzard, will be appearing at several Southern Wizard World stops, including Nashville. Bo, Luke and Daisy Duke themselves (John Schneider, Tom Wopat and Catherine Bach) will be in attendance Saturday and Sunday to discuss the show with fans. They’ll also have a “General Lee” Dodge Charger and a Plymouth Fury mocked up to resemble Sheriff Roscoe’s police cruiser.
Danny Trejo
Danny Trejo is a instantly recognizable face and voice when he appears on the big and small screens. After multiple prison stints in the ’70s, Trejo used the 12-step program to turn his life around and soon found his way into numerous supporting roles in films such as Con Air and Heat. He is best known for his collaborations with director Robert Rodriguez, who cast him in Desperado, From Dusk till Dawn, Once Upon a Time in Mexico and the Spy Kids series. The character he portrayed in Spy Kids, Machete, was infamously adapted for an adult audience into a fake trailer for Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse project, and later the films Machete and Machete Kills. Trejo has also appeared in numerous TV shows, including Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy and Lost.
WWE Superstars
One of the biggest draws at the Wizard World conventions have been WWE superstars. The Nashville stops includes powerhouse Roman Reigns and WWE Diva Eva Marie. Reigns, whose real name is Leati Joseph Anoa’i, is a former WWE Tag Team Champion, the 2014 Royal Rumble winner and competed in the main event of Wrestlamania 31. He also comes from a family of legendary wrestlers, which includes former WWE performers Yokozuna, Rikishi and Umaga. Marie is a currently on WWE’s developmental NXT roster and appears on the E! reality show Total Divas. Reigns and Marie will be separately participating in photo ops, autograph signings and Q-and-A panels on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Superheroes
Superheroes are an integral part of any comic convention, and fans will have a chance to see three of their favorites in the flesh. First off, we have the original Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferigno. The former Mr. Universe winner portrayed the green behemoth for over a decade on the small screen and currently provides the Hulk’s voice in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Another famous voice you’ll be able to meet is the latest voice of Spider-Man/Peter Parker, Drake Bell. Bell, who portrays the web-slinger in the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series, is most notably known for his work on the Nickelodeon shows Drake & Josh and The Amanda Show. Fans will also get to meet Jason David Frank, who portrayed Tommy Oliver in numerous iterations of the Power Rangers, most notably as the Green Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Wizard World Comic Con Nashville will take place Sept. 25–27 at the Music City Center. More information can be found at wizardworld.com.
