March 5 – Be Smart, Don’t Start
Central Magnet HOSA students created the campaign “Be Smart, Don’t Start” to raise awareness on the negative health effects of smoking. They presented their campaign at the regional HOSA (Health Occupations Student of America) Competition and gained a spot in the state competition. This Zumba fundraiser, held on Sat., March 5, will help raise money and awareness for their campaign at Central Magnet School (701 E. Main St.). Tickets are $10 at the door. April 2 – Kappa Delta Wing Fling
For the 13th consecutive year, the Wing Fling, a longtime community favorite, returns to Murfreesboro to raise money for The Family Center and Prevent Child Abuse America. The event will take place at the MTSU Murphy Center Lawn on Saturday, April 2, from 12–3 p.m. Wing Fling features over 15 participating organizations and restaurants providing their best wings in an attempt to have their dishes named the “Best Wings in the ’Boro.” Last year, Kappa Delta and the Murfreesboro community came together to raise over $26,000 with over 2,500 people attending the 2015 Wing Fling. The Captain William Lytle Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will host a picnic, free to all Vietnam War veterans, at the General Bragg Trailhead Pavilion, 1540 W. Local artistic talents are banding together to auction pieces of their work for the benefit of Ferrell Hollow Farm Senior Horse Sanctuary at the First Annual HeARTs for Horses Art Auction Fundraiser, held from 2–6 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Mayday Brewery. Everything from pottery, paintings, assemblage, fibers, hand-bound journals and more are set to be auctioned with all the proceeds to go to Ferrell Hollow Farm Senior Horse Sanctuary, which provides care for senior horses giving them a beautiful place to live, a healthy diet, veterinary care and lots of love.
