Mad Men the Conference will take place May 26–28 in Murfreesboro, hosted by Middle Tennessee State University in partnership with the University of Salford in the U.K.
The conference will bring students, professors, advertising industry professionals and Mad Men enthusiasts from all across the world to discuss the critically acclaimed television show.
Mad Men aired from 2007 to 2015 on AMC, and focused on a Madison Avenue advertising agency during the 1960s, addressing real issues from that era such as racism and sexism.
“Mad Men is a groundbreaking television phenomenon. It exists at the intersection of good literature and a media product, which is rare, and I think game-changing in terms of what we can expect from quality television,” says Jane Marcellus, MTSU professor and one of the co-conveners.
When asked what they hope to achieve with their conference Marcellus said, “to bring together as many scholars as possible to talk about this amazing program. We had tremendous response, with scholars from nine countries besides the U.S. coming, and from 16 universities. Our goal is one big, wonderful academic conversation, and to have fun.”
