Rain and public safety concerns prompted the cancellation of Saturday’s Main Street JazzFest on Murfreesboro’s downtown Square. Organizers cited Saturday’s projected forecast for heavy rain and the potential for damaging storms throughout the day.
“We are so disappointed that Mother Nature didn’t’ cooperate with us this year,” said Kathleen Herzog, Main Street director. Main Street is the nonprofit organization that annually organized the downtown promotion as a gift to the community.
The Saturday event will not be rescheduled.
The weather didn’t hamper JazzFest’s Friday night schedule of Future Jazz Greats. Crowds gathered on the Square for a successful evening of jazz presented by area high school bands.
“We were relieved the bad weather held off long enough to give these young people a chance to share their talents. That’s always a highlight of our annual JazzFest event,” Herzog said.
Patrons can still head downtown to the Murfreesboro Square this weekend to visit the shops and restaurants, and plenty of live, local music is still scheduled to take place at other Murfreesboro venues.
Main Street’s Friday Night Live summer concert series kicks off Friday, June 7 at 6:30 p.m. on the square.
