America’s favorite half-bluegrass/all-sass musical group The Cleverlys is set to take part in this year’s Murfreesboro City July 4th celebration, hosted by Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation. The New York Times wrote, “If Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton and Spinal Tap spawned a litter of puppies, it would be the Cleverlys.”
Cool off at the Fountains at Gateway on Sunday, July 4, with a community picnic at 4 p.m. Then, at 7 p.m., the cunning Cleverlys bring their quick-witted faux-family fun to the festivities. Just in case the night’s music doesn’t light up the night quite enough, event organizers will set off a fireworks display (from a field across the road near the Fire Hall) at 9 p.m.
Later in July, The Cleverlys will find themselves in good company with Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, The Tennessee Mafia Jug Band, Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out and more well-known artists at the Big Grass Bluegrass Festival in Paragould, Arkansas. The band is adding more dates consistently, so stay tuned. In the meantime (and speaking of tuned), check out The Cleverlys’ fine-tuned take on Eiffel 65’s hit “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” and keep the patriotic blue vibes flowing by buying their 2019 album of the same name. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to the Fountains at Gateway, 1500 Medical Center Pkwy., in Murfreesboro for the July 4 show. The event is free.
